According to a study released by website WalletHub, three cities in northwest Ohio have been named among the best cities to raise a family in the state.
Perrysburg was named the top city to raise a family, outpacing 180 cities listed in the report. Sylvania was 13th, and Maumee came in at No. 25.
The website used 21 key indicators and separated the rankings into four major categories — family life and fun; education, health and safety; affordability, and socioeconomic. Bexley, a suburb of Columbus, was named the top spot for family life and fun; Perrysburg was the top for education, health and safety; Mason, in southwest Ohio, was listed at No. 1 for affordability, and Hudson, in northeast Ohio, took the top ranking for socioeconomic.
Perrsyburg came in with a total score of 77.80. In addition to its top ranking in education, health and safety, it was second in family life and fun, fourth in affordability, and 12th in socioeconomic.
Sylvania’s total score of 63.88 was helped in large part because of its 10th-place ranking in affordability. It was also ranked 26th in education, health and safety.
Maumee appeared in the list with a 60.27 final score. It came in 29th in family life and fun and 31st in affordability.
Tiffin was the only other northwest Ohio city to appear in the top 50, checking in at No. 49. Findlay was 52, Defiance was 58, Bowling Green at 63, Oregon in 82, and Van Wert in 95.
Toledo was ranked No. 153, boasting a No. 3 ranking in family life and fun. The Glass City tied with Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Akron, and Dayton for most attractions.
Lima checked in at 177. The city in Allen County was among the worst in the state in education, health and safety (180) and socioeconomic (177). Lima and Toledo were tied for the worst cities in highest violent crime rate.
